Simple, yet dramatic elegance

We were asked to do potted and cut arrangements for a rehearsal dinner at 103 West right before Christmas. We were going for 'simple, yet dramatic elegance with a hint of Christmas spirit.' And that it was!

We used a classic silver wine cooler as the container at the namecard table. This was the 'Ta-Da!' arrangement filled with orchids, red ilex berries, willow, boxwood clippings, and fir clippings.

Christmas 2009!

There is just nothing more beautiful and festive than seasonal greenery at Christmas time. Whether it is the sight of glossy Magnolia over a door, the distinct, fresh smell of Cedar garland draped over a mantle, or the classic Christmas scent of a fir tree adorned with ornaments that each have their own meaning. Ahhh.....why can't we have these sense-evoking, beautiful greens in our homes all year??? Oh yes, I remember now. Because they are such a mess and pain to take down?!? Yikes. I don't know what a holiday season would be without them though! They truly are FANTASTIC!

My favorite tree we did this year!! No ornaments...just red ilex berries, pine cones, and cotton stalks decorated this tree! It was finished off with a burlap bow on top and burlap fabric as the skirt.

A Family Affair

We are blessed with a wonderful family! CGOA was soooo excited to spruce up our Aunt Sharon and Uncle Strib's house for an engagement party for their youngest, Mary Kelly and her fiance, Ben. The party was at Christmas time, so we had a fantastic time re-doing their pots and putting up Christmas decorations to get ready for the party!

The front of their beautiful home--Magnolia garland around the door, a Magnolia wreath, new containers with boxwood topiaries, violas, and pansies. Quite the make-over!

Yellow to brighten Winter days...

Mar Mar loves yellow...especially on dreary Winter days. These pansies are sure to help her make it to Spring!

Mrs. Pat's portico needed a splash of green, especially since she already had these gorgeous cast iron urns! To add some interest, we put a yellowy Heuchera in the composition.

These Aspidistra, Autumn Ferns, Pansies, and Violas will be so beautiful spilling around the ornamental cabbage this winter!

The Pope's!

It is such a joy to go back to the Pope's home for every install! Not only are they the kindest people, but they get an A++ for taking care of their containers :)

We installed this Kimberly Queen Fern with impatiens in April...and here it is at the end of October?!?! Oh, how I wish I had a 'before' picture....7 of these were spaced along the edge of their back patio and they just looked FABULOUS!! It was so hard to replace them with Fall plantings, but the first freeze would nip these!

Hello Friends of Container Gardening!
I hope this post finds you all enjoying cool nights, sun-warmed days, and the tinges of color on the leaves. Even though we are well into fall at this point, the rain has delayed lots of planting and blog posting!
Thank goodness for a beautiful week...we have been playing catch up so that everyone can begin to enjoy the wonderful plants that grace our fall and winter.
While perennial beds and ferns are going dormant, and the trees are loosing their leaves, Container Gardening of Atlanta is on the town to make sure that your pots keep color and vibrancy to brighten the cold winter days that lie ahead.
